"Lewis Mokler has grabbed us in the past when he’s been harmonising with his strumming, but a touching new live demo sees him yank at the heart strings from behind a dramatic piano ballad instead.
A poignant memory to his close friend Phil Ellis who passed away recently, Mokler has poured his heart into every sharpened note of the new track, his soulful vocals developing a life of their own. “You show me the way, wouldn’t be here without you” he bellows with a touch of James Blake to his graceful, sliding vocals. His music is never less than sincere, but his honesty and intimacy on ‘P.E.’ goes far beyond that.
You hear him muffle a laugh and his breathy vocals just echoing against the isolated piano in his latest, saddening tale. The 21-year old channels his delicate thoughts with fraught, intoxicating passion, enchantingly harmonising through it all now, whatever comes his way as he ascends from the local scene. “Are you listening? When you look down from the clouds?” he asks brazenly, and the answer, requires no hesitation.” - Sounds Of Now Music
I wrote this song on Friday 13th September, the cliche of misfortune had never been a worry of mine. However I woke to the news that a friend and music associate of mine had sadly passed away.
This man was phenomenal in my progress over the last few years, taking me on tour in October 2012 (where I wrote The Traveller), guiding me, giving me contacts and even taking me over to Ireland for the first time. He was a great man and it’s a great loss to see him go.
So I wrote this for him, it’s a one take live demo which I hope you enjoy and find some comfort in it if you have ever lost anyone close to you.
Rest in Peace Phil Ellis!
